Huahine is the smallest of the "high" islands, and was the last to become French. It was definitely the most relaxed of the ones I visited, and the first where I could drive at the slower pace that I wanted to without impatient drivers always behind me. It has quite a few archeological sites and some good snorkeling (and probably a lot more but I only had two days for it). The capital, Fare, is a nice, small (very small) town, just a few blocks running along the waterfront.
